Sony Xperia Z Ultra: The Phablet With All The Superlatives!

When I twitted about the recent launch of Sony Philippines, a fellow blogger immediately got excited about the new Xperia Z Ultra.

Who wouldn’t be? It’s the phablet with all the superlatives!

It’s the world’s largest, slimmest, fastest, sturdiest and smartest… yes, the “baddest” of all smartphones available in the market.

The world’s largest display…
Xperia Z Ultra features a 6.4” FULL HD touchscreen Full HD with its unique TRILUMINOS mobile display. Simply put, it brings out the rich colors we naturally see with our naked eyes. Due to Sony’s BRAVIA TV technology, we experience X-Reality or an intelligent super resolution display that enhances every image. It optimizes that low quality video uploaded on YouTube to become the sharpest video ever possible. It even boosts subtle patterns, giving us that exact detailed feel, and bolsters bold outlines. Thus, we enjoy at least 60% more of the screen compared to other smartphones. And with its Battery STAMINA Mode, we can enjoy up to 5.5 hours of viewing time. (With a full-charged battery, it can last up to almost 2 days.) Since It has an approximate 5 GB firmware plus 11 GB of “internal storage,” we could store up to 7.5 hours worth of videos.
So, it uniquely offers the extreme big screen phone entertainment experience for watching, gaming, reading and browsing.

The world’s slimmest body…
Despite having the world’s largest display, Xperia Z Ultra is not thick but sexily slim and lightweight. It only weighs just 212 grams. Sony designed it with the passport in mind so we can hold its groundbreaking 6.5mm, solid metal frame body with one hand. In fact, we can even adjust its keyboard for left-handed or right-handed people for that one hand input portability!

Though IMHO I go for function, I’m very glad that Sony did not scrimp on fashion. Xperia Z Ultra’s front and back are made of tempered glass coupled with the OptiContrast panel. It showcases the much-admired OmniBalance design like that of Xperia Z and Tablet Z. Depending on the personality brand you want to exude, you can choose macho black, womanly white or avant-garde purple color finishes.

The world’s fastest processor…
At its very core is the world’s fastest smartphone processor, that is, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with HD voice (infused with the ClearAudio+ mode and Xloud loudness). In short, it delivers breakneck speed and performance plus crystal-clear voice and audio quality.

The world’s sturdiest smartphone…
Somebody said that, due to mobile phones, we could no longer play that practical joke of dunking a fully clothed person in the pool. Not anymore! Xperia Z Ultra is not only dust resistant but also waterproof. It can stay underwater for up to 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for that person to get out of the pool and chase those clowns away.

That also means we can even film or take photos underwater even with challenging lighting with its 8MB camera that features Exmor RS for mobile, HDR for both photos and film, and Superior Auto mode which automatically activates HDR and noise reduction. However, as far as taking still pictures, we have to set the timer since underwater we can’t press the screen shutter button and, as far as shooting videos, we have to press that button before diving into the water.

The world’s smartest phablet…
As I have said, I go for function more than fashion. Thankfully, the Xperia Z Ultra gives us both. But I really like its super responsive screen with the handwriting recognition. It can read even cursive writing! One thing I don’t like with styluses is my penchant for losing it. But I’m happy that I can use any—as in any—pencil or ballpoint pen and write or sketch on the screen. With its (coming soon!) SBH52 or dynamic Smart Bluetoot Handset, I can doodle or take down notes during calls. Talk about multi-tasking!

Yes, the new Xperia Z Ultra is the “baddest” of them all, as one Sony Philippines executive put it. With all its superlative features, it’s SRP PHP 31,790 (or PHP 33,490 0% interest for 6 months) makes it fit snugly in our pocket.

For those who are expecting for the Xperia Z Ultra LTE, you will not get it until October. :)
