Friendster is back to business

The pioneer in social networking site Friendster officially announced its debut into the gaming mainstream earlier today April 25 at Museum Café in Ayala Makati. It will carry the name “Friendster living the game,” as it’ll venture now into the gaming arena.

Friendster which pioneered and engineered the social networking was introduced last 2002 and with that, the online community got literally closer and after a couple of years bringing the Internet world where it is right now it got acquired by Asia’s leading e-payment and lifestyle provider MOL Global Pte Ltd or simply MOL (Money Online) in 2009.

The official launch was well attended by the people from the tech community and it was hosted by Alicia Gosiengfiao which is the sister of cosplayer Alodia. Most of the people from MOL people were present including its CEO Ganesh Kumar Bangah and the Friendster CEO Mikhail Nikolai Galicia to support and answer questions and inquiry regarding their new gaming platform.

As a follow up on its launch, Friendster will host this time one of the biggest gaming event at SM North Edsa Cyberzone on April 27 which has the title “Friendster FunXtion.” There, participants and people all over the Philippines will get to experience meeting and engage new friends play online games and win fantastic prizes Friendster has to offer for them.

“The Philippines has always been one of our biggest markets with a vibrant online community, making the country exceptionally important to us,” said Friendster CEO, Nikolai Galicia. “Therefore it is a joy to roll out Friendster’s inaugural event here, to a community that is continuously growing. We are committed in continually bringing the latest content and giving the most compelling rewards to our users.”

Friendster reported that they still got 100M registered globally, 40% of which are in the Philippines and 10% are still active.
